Lethbridge racquetballer wins bronze at The World Games, first Canadian since 2009

A man from Lethbridge is coming home from a global competition with some hardware.

Coby Iwaasa has won a bronze medal in mixed doubles racquetball at The World Games in Chengdu, China.

He and his partner, Frédérique Lambert, defeated Japanese duo Michimune Kono and Harumi Kajino, 11-3, 11-7, 7-11, 11-4 to claim the prize.

This means that Iwaasa and Lambert are the first Canadian racquetball players to win medals at the World Games in the last 16 years.

Iwaasa also finished fifth in Men’s Singles competition.

He has racked up eight national titles in his professional career, including two gold medals at the 2025 Canadian National Racquetball Championships. Iwaasa has also competed in the Pan American Games.
