Alberta RCMP provides tips to avoid mail theft

Aug 19, 2025 | 3:31 PM

Alberta RCMP are advising the public on ways to protect their mail from theft.

This includes installing a mailbox that locks, which can help deflect thieves from taking mail. Residents should collect their mail in a timely fashion and not allow it to accumulate in your mailbox.

Police say residents should also consider a package delivery box, which is a secure place for packages to prevent theft from your doorstep.

Another simple way to prevent theft is to choose a shipping option that requires a signature or let your neighbours know when you’ll be away.

The Alberta RCMP is also reminding residents to RAVE Mobile Safety, a notification system that allows police to fanout real-time information.

Information given from RAVE includes ongoing crimes, traffic advisories, and missing people, as well as information on current crime trends.

Those interested can sign up to receive RAVE notifications by visiting getrave.ca.

If you see something suspicious, report it to your local police service. If you see a crime in progress, call 911. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
