Several facilities in Standoff impacted by water main break

Officials in the Blood Tribe are meeting on Thursday to discuss the impacts from the previous day’s water main break.

Blood Tribe Public Works said it occurred in the afternoon of Wednesday, August 20, near the Kainai Continuing Care Centre, and involved an “old” cast iron pipeline.

From the Public Works side, only the Kainai Continuing Care Centre is impacted, and other services, such as the Clinic, Blood Tribe Administration and Standoff community are not affected.

The Blood Tribe Department of Health, however, says its Continuing Care Centre and Administration Building will be closed until further notice. This impacts all essential and non-essential programs operating out of the main BTDH facility in Standoff.

  • Long-term care residents are being transported to appropriate care options
  • Bringing the Spirit Home participants have been relocated to the Standoff Post-Detox trailers. New intakes are suspended until services resume at the main facility
  • Standoff Clinic closed until further notice
  • Blood Tribe Dental – appointments will be rescheduled with services reopening on Wednesday, August 27

Staff from the affected programs will be available remotely with limited access to on-site resources.

The BTDH Wellness Program, Levern Clinic, and Lethbridge Wellness Shelter and Stabilization Unit are not impacted and will continue to operate as normal.

Blood Tribe Public Works says it is working on fixing the water main break and restoring services as soon as possible. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact Blood Tribe Public Works at 403-737-2540.
