Brooks RCMP investigating fatal collision on Trans Canada Highway

UPDATE (Aug. 27): The RCMP now believes that the suspect vehicle is a 2015-2016 Volkswagen Jetta. The colour is unknown, but it is still thought to have damage on the driver’s side.

Mounties are investigating a death that happened on the Trans Canada Highway near Tilley early Monday morning.

On Aug. 25, 2025, at 4:10 a.m. Brooks RCMP responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 1, near Range Road 131.

Upon arrival, a damaged vehicle was located with the doors open, and a deceased person was located on the side of the road.

Mounties said that their initial investigation has determined that the deceased hit an animal and was checking his vehicle when he was hit by another vehicle. The vehicle that hit the man did not remain on the scene.

The deceased was identified as a 30-year-old man from Andrew, Alta. RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Mounties are continuing to investigate and believe the suspect vehicle is a grey or silver Volkswagen, which may have damage to the driver’s side.

RCMP is now seeking assistance from the public.
