A man from Brocket is facing charges after an incident this past weekend.

On Sunday, August 24, the Piikani Nation RCMP attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Hyundai Santa Fe, which it says was seen driving dangerously while leaving a gas station in Brocket.

“The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed eastbound on Highway 3, nearly causing collisions with multiple other vehicles,” reads a news release from the Piikani Nation RCMP.

Due to the risk to public safety, officers returned to the gas station to review surveillance footage in an attempt to identify the driver.

“While reviewing footage from the gas station, RCMP identified the driver and learned that the driver had assaulted a male passenger and appeared to have forcibly confined the passenger into the back seat of the vehicle before driving off.”

With assistance from the Calgary Police Service, the vehicle was located in Calgary.

The driver was taken into custody and the victim was confirmed to be safe.

Billy Crowshoe, 38, of Brocket, is charged with assault, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and driving while prohibited.

He remains in custody and is set to appear in court in Fort Macleod on August 28, 2025.
