Wildfire smoke is causing the air quality in the region, and much of the province, to fall.

Environment Canada issued an air quality warning for southern Alberta on Tuesday morning, September 2, 2025.

“Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour,” reads the notice from Environment Canada.

They say all people are at risk, regardless of their age or health status. Some, however, are more likely to be impacted, including seniors, pregnant women, infants and young children, people with an existing illness or chronic health condition, and people who work outdoors.

The weather forecaster advises limiting your time outdoors and rescheduling outdoor sports, events, and activities.

If you must be outdoors, Environment Canada says to use a well-constructed, well-fitting, and properly worn respirator-type mask, such as a NIOSH-certified N95 or equivalent.

Symptoms related to wildfire smoke exposure include mild and common symptoms such as eye, nose and throat irritation, headaches, or a mild cough. More serious but less common symptoms include wheezing, chest pains or severe cough.
