Fort Macleod emergency department temporarily closed

Sep 3, 2025 | 10:02 AM

Residents of Fort Macleod who require emergency care will need to seek assistance elsewhere for the time being.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) says the emergency department at the Fort Macleod Health Centre closed at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3. It is set to reopen at 7:00 p.m. the same day.

Health officials say the closure is due to an unexpected gap in clinical personnel.

Anyone needing emergency healthcare during the closure can call 9-1-1. EMS calls will be rerouted to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge, which is 49 kilometres away.

Emergency care can also be accessed at Chinook Regional Hospital, the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre, or Claresholm Community Health Centre.

Those with non-urgent, health-related questions can phone Health Link at 8-1-1 at any time.

Nursing staff will remain on-site at the Fort Macleod Health Centre to look after long-term care residents.
