Lethbridge drug house shut for 90 days

Sep 3, 2025 | 12:42 PM

The Alberta Sheriffs have shut a house on the north side down that allegedly had dozens of police visits over the last year.

The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods (SCAN) Unit has obtained a court order against the property owner of 1212 10 Avenue North. The property will be closed for 90 days, effective at noon on Wednesday, September 3.

The community safety order bars all people from the property until the closure period ends on December 2. It will be boarded up, fenced, and have the locks changed.

Between January 2024 and May 2025, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) attended the home 55 times for calls, including assaults, disturbances, and suspected drug overdoses. Complainants reported used syringes in the alley behind the property.

LPS Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh thanked the SCAN Unit for its cooperation in the investigation.

“The closure of this problem property reflects the impact that SCAN and the Lethbridge Police Service can achieve together when we act against criminal activity. Our partnership is crucial in restoring peace and order to city neighbourhoods and we remain steadfast in our commitment to provide a safer community for all,” says Mehdizadeh.

SCAN members will monitor the property for activity while the investigation is ongoing.

Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis says the SCAN Unit continues to make a difference by helping to restore peace of mind and security for communities across Alberta.

“I want to thank members of the southern SCAN unit and the Lethbridge Police Service for its work in shutting down a long-standing problem property that was a source of chaos and disorder in this Lethbridge neighbourhood,” says Ellis. “Alberta will never be a haven for criminal activity. I encourage all Albertans to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.”

The community safety order conditions will remain in effect until December 2, 2027.
