Sep 5, 2025 | 10:00 AM

An international border crossing in southern Alberta is operating on a reduced schedule ahead of its seasonal closure.

The Canada Border Services Agency says the Chief Mountain Port of Entry is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every day between Labour Day and September 30.

It will close on October 1, 2025, and reopen on May 14, 2026.

Chief Mountain is located on Highway 6 just east of Waterton Lakes National Park. After continuing along Highway 17 in Montana, it connects to Highway 89 north of Babb.

Drivers can also access Highway 89 by taking the Carway border crossing, which is open year-round.

Parks Canada says cell service is limited on the Chief Mountain Highway, so travellers are asked to do their research before hitting th eroad.
