Man charged with sexual assault & luring of underage Lethbridge girl, more victims possible

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has apprehended a man who allegedly lured and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl.

On April 23, 2025, officers responded to a report of a missing youth.

It was determined that the child had been picked up a day earlier near her home in the city by a man who had befriended her online.

LPS claims that the man took the child to a home he rented for the night and sexually assaulted her multiple times before leaving Lethbridge.

The rental property was searched and LPS says it obtained physical evidence.

“Police further obtained video surveillance images of the male while he was in Lethbridge and the online communications he had with the victim, which included sexually explicit images,” says LPS.

On September 10, LPS, with the assistance of the Calgary Police Service, arrested the suspect at his home in Calgary. Additional evidence was seized.

Jhanger Ali Sameer, 26, of Calgary, is charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, possession of child pornography and two counts of child luring. He remains in custody.

“Police have evidence to believe this was not an isolated incident and there may be additional, unidentified victims,” LPS advises.

Because of this, LPS is releasing a photo of Sameer, who may also be known as “Sam” online.

Anyone who has been victimized by this man, or who has information that could assist in the investigation, is asked to call LPS at 403-328-4444 and reference file 25006945.
