Lethbridge Hurricanes announce Wall of Honour inductees

A former player and a former board member are set to be recognized by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The team has named Domenic Pittis and Herman Elfring as the latest inductees to its Wall of Honour.

Domenic Pittis

Pittis, originally from Calgary, played three seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes from 1991-94.

He appeared in 203 regular-season games with the Canes, amassing 269 points (110g-159a) in his WHL career.

His career-best season was in 1993-94, where he had 127 points (58g-69a), which is the seventh-most for a Hurricanes skater in a single season.

Pittis ranks 12th all-time in goals (110), 10th all-time in assists (159), 10th all-time in points (269) and 16th all-time in points per game (1.325) in Hurricanes history. Pittis was named the Hurricanes’ Three Star Award winner in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994, the Top Scorer in 1992-1993 and 1993-1994 while being named the ‘Canes Most Valuable Player in 1993-1994. He was also named a WHL Second Team All-Star in 1994.

He went on to play 84 games in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators.

Pittis also appeared in seven Spengler Cup tournaments for Canada and was inducted into the Swiss Hockey Hall of Fame.

Since his retirement in 2013, he has worked as a coach for the Calgary Flames and the AHL’s Stockton Heat. He is currently the head coach of the Saint Mary’s Prep team in the US Hockey League.

Herman Elfring

Elfring will be inducted into the Builders Category.

He spent 23 years on the Lethbridge Hurricanes board, holding titles such as governor, president, and a member of the finance committee.

He retired following the 2016-17 season.

Elfring was also the team’s president for four seasons, encompassing 1995-96 to 1998-1999.

During that period, the Hurricanes captured their long WHL Championship in 1997, advancing to the Memorial Cup Final.

He was named a recipient of the WHL’s Distinguished Service Award in 2017.

Pittis and Elfring will be inducted into the Lethbridge Hurricanes Wall of Honour on October 17, at the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.
