Grande Prairie crowd encourages Smith to take proposals further at Alberta Next panel

Premier Danielle Smith’s Alberta Next panel was encouraged to take action in Grande Prairie Wednesday.

The panel, aimed at taking more political control from Ottawa, is pitching six ideas that could become potential referendum questions.

Those proposals include withdrawing from the Canada Pension Plan, withholding social services from some immigrants, taking over tax collection and replacing the RCMP.

The naysayers were again outnumbered in a packed house of more than 500 attendees.

Many speaking at the mic pushed Smith to take the panel’s proposals further.

Smith says she might take action on some of the files without any public referendum, after the panel submits a report before the end of the year.
