A second woman from Lethbridge has won a crown at a major national pageant.

Desiree Greene finished first in the Miss Canada Transcontinental Pageant (TCP) in Toronto.

She was previously victorious at Miss Lethbridge in 2024-25, and based on that win, she was asked to audition for the Canadian event.

“At first, I was kind of skeptical about it. I was like, ‘I have so much going on, school is about to start, I don’t know if this is something I want to do right now before my last year of university,'” says Greene. “But I was like, you know what, last year’s pageant was amazing. Let’s try it one more time.”

Greene went on to win the entire event and says it was an amazing experience.

She told LNN that she had been pleasantly surprised to learn that “the pageant world isn’t anything like Miss Congeniality,” she laughed.

“All the women are so empowering and so impactful,” Green explains. “They have so many stories to tell and share that, as you get to know everybody that you’re going on this journey with, it just becomes an amazing life experience. You learn so many life lessons from other peoples’ stories, you meet so many new people, and you come out with friends. Honestly, it becomes a little bit of a family by the time you’re done.”

In the last couple of years, Greene has modelled at Fashion Week events in Edmonton and Toronto, and has been invited to Paris Fashion Week.

She is now gearing up for Miss Universe TCP in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 13-21, 2025. Greene will compete alongside other national winners.

Greene says she is excited for Miss Universe and that she loves meeting new people, but she knows that she will have to put a lot of work in to get ready for it.

“The way I’m preparing for it, honestly is walking. The biggest thing is I’m a big sloucher when I walk, so for the pageants, I’ve always had to practice, you know, shoulders back, head high, walk with the confidence I know I have and can exude and show everybody,” she says.

Green is originally from Edmonton but has lived in Lethbridge for the last five years. She is studying social sciences at the University of Lethbridge, majoring in psychology, sociology and Indigenous health, and is minoring in mental health.

Her goal is to become a social worker.

“Growing up, my parents were foster parents, and so, there were social workers in and out of my home. One thing I really want to do now as an adult is be a social worker and just help to make a change in children’s and families’ lives.”

Lethbridge’s Jaime Vandenburg also won a Miss Universe Canada competition earlier this year. She is set to compete at Miss Universe, which is being held in Bangkok, Thailand, on November 21, 2025.
