Three provincial scholarships now open for Alberta women studying in male-dominated fields

Sep 20, 2025 | 1:00 PM

Applications are now open for three scholarships offered to women in Alberta who are hoping to study in male-dominated fields.

The provincial government announced this week women can now apply for the Persons Case Scholarship; the Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Scholarship; and the Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship.

Applications are open and will be accepted until Oct. 31.

The Persons Case Scholarship has been around for 46 years, and helps students enter fields which advance gender equality. It is named after the Famous Five, whose legal fight for women’s rights has left a permanent legacy.

Women in STEM launched five years ago, and the Women in Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship was announced in 2024.

Successful applicants will receive $2,500.

Last year, 40 students received the Persons Case Scholarship, 50 received the Women in STEM Scholarship, and 20 received the Technical and Applied Arts Scholarship.
