Five-year-old remains missing from Crowsnest Pass

Sep 23, 2025 | 9:17 AM

UPDATE: (Tuesday at 3:20 p.m.):

The Crowsnest Pass RCMP says it is still searching for five-year-old Darius Macdougall, two days after he went missing.

They have confirmed that Macdougall and his family are from Lethbridge.

A total of 82 search and rescue members from Alberta and B.C. are on site near the Island Lake Campground. They are aided by the RCMP, helicopters, drones, canine teams, and specialized underwater and swift water crews.

The Salvation Army is providing food for the rescue teams, while a nearby Bible camp has offered rest space.

Officers are continuing to interview those who were with Macdougall, but there does not appear to be an element of foul play at this time.

Officials are advising the public not to try to assist in the search due to the hazardous terrain.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crowsnest Pass RCMP at 403-562-2866 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Original Story:

The RCMP says it continues to search for a child who went missing in Crowsnest Pass.

At 11:33 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, the Crowsnest Pass detachment received a report that Darius Macdougall was missing.

He was last seen walking with six family members near the Island Lake Campground when he was separated from the group.

Macdougall has autism, and his family says it is often difficult for him to respond to others.

Crowsnest Pass RCMP says search efforts persisted throughout Monday night and will continue today.

The members involved in the search include over 60 ground members of the Southwest Alberta Regional Search and Rescue, along with RCMP, RCMP drones and dogs, and ascent helicopters out of Fernie.

The RCMP says it has received inquiries from the public who asked if they could volunteer. “This offer is appreciated but will interfere with the search as there are processes in place and it may contaminate the area.”

More updates will be provided as they become available.
