LPS investigating suspicious package outside of Immanuel Christian Elementary

UPDATE (1:40 p.m. Friday): One person has been taken into custody.

The Lethbridge Police Service says the package is of no threat to the area. The public can now safely return.

LPS is continuing to investigate.

For the second time this month, the Lethbridge Police Service is looking into what could be a suspicious package at a local school.

The service announced at 12:39 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, that its officers are outside of Immanuel Christian Elementary School on the 2000 block of 5 Avenue North.

Members of the Explosive Disposal Unit have been deployed.

Students are being kept safely inside the school and away from the area.

Visitors are not permitted entry to the school at this time, and the public is asked to stay away.

Updates will be provided by LPS when they are available.
