Postal strike to impact invoice delivery and payments for county residents

Sep 29, 2025 | 3:27 PM

Due to the postal strike at Canada Post, officials with Lethbridge County say delivery of utility and accounts receivable invoices will be impacted.

To avoid missing payment deadlines—which will remain in place regardless of postal delays — the county strongly encourages customers to sign up for e-billing.

Officials say e-billing can help ensure invoices are delivered on time, right to your inbox. The county says signing up is quick and easy:

The county also wants to remind customers not to mail payments during a postal disruption, as delivery cannot be guaranteed and you may incur interest charges if the county does not receive payment on time. Payments for utilities and accounts receivable can be made:

  • In-person at the county office
  • Through your financial institution (online or in-branch)
  • Via Plastiq, a third-party service allowing credit card payments (processing time: 2–3 business days; fees apply)

If paying through your bank, ensure you choose the correct payee (you will need to add “Lethbridge County” as a payee first):

  • “Lethbridge County Utilities” – for utility payments (from a previous invoice, use your utility account as the account number)
  • “Accounts Receivable” or “AR” – for accounts receivables (include your 4-letter, 3-digit customer number from your invoice)

Applying payments to the correct account helps ensure timely processing and avoids interest charges, officials point out.

The county thanks residents for their understanding and flexibility as the county navigates this mail disruption. For updates, visit the county website, follow them on social media or sign up for the County Insider (bi-weekly e-newsletter).
