Alberta RCMP holds ceremony for Police and Peace Officers Memorial Day last Sunday
Last Sunday, Sept. 28, Alberta RCMP led the Government of Alberta’s Police and Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The ceremony took place at the Alberta Legislature south grounds, more specifically at the Pillar of Strength, a monument that recognizes fallen soldiers killed on the line of duty since 1976. There are 106 names on the pillar, six of them added in the last decade.
“Each name etched on the Pillar of Strength tells a story of courage, a story of sacrifice,” said Deputy Commissioner Trevor Daroux, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP in a media release. “Each name represents not only a life of service, but also the deep loss felt by families, colleagues and communities.”
