Lethbridge man now charged with manslaughter following death of senior

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says it has upgraded a charge against a man who allegedly assaulted a senior.

Around noon on September 10, 2025, LPS responded to a report of an injured 80-year-old man in the parking lot of Save-On-Foods on the 1200 block of 2 Avenue North.

He told police that a man stole his bike, and when he confronted the alleged thief, the man punched him, causing the elderly victim to hit his head on the pavement.

The suspect fled the scene, but turned himself in the following day.

The senior was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital, but was later airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary. He died as a result of his injuries on Thursday, Oct. 9.

Cameron Jordon Hamilton, 34, of Lethbridge, was initially charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, and theft under $5,000.

Following the victim’s death, the aggravated assault charge has been upgraded to manslaughter.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 23, 2025.
