Applications open for provincial parent payment program

Oct 14, 2025 | 5:48 PM

The Government of Alberta has officially launched the parent payment portal, and applications are now open for the parent payment program that will support families during the teachers’ strike.

The parent payment program is set to provide families with $30 per day, per student, for the duration of the strike. The initiative is meant to help families with children with extra costs they may face while children are at home during the strike.

Those hoping to apply can do so on Alberta.ca by logging into their account and registering on the parent portal.

To be eligible, applicants must be the parent or guardian of a child aged 12 or under and must be enrolled in a public, catholic or francophone school. The parent and child must also be residents of Alberta.

Payments will be issued through e-transfer, and families will not be required to repay the funds.

Additional support is also available for families of children with active Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) agreements who are enrolled in schools affected by the teacher strike.

Families of children aged 12 and under with active FSCD agreements are eligible for an additional $30 per child per school day. Meantime, families of children aged 13 through 17 with an active FSCD agreement are eligible for $60 per child per instructional day.

Throughout the duration of labour action, payments will be issued on the last day of each month and will be retroactive to Oct. 6. The first payment will be issued on Oct. 31.
