Oct 18, 2025 | 6:12 PM

An Alberta MLA will be heading south of the border on Sunday in an effort to deepen partnerships between the province and the United States.

Shane Getson, MLA for Lac. Ste. Anne-Parkland will be in Washington, D.C. from Oct. 19 to 22, not only to strengthen partnerships but also to advance shared economic, trade and investment priorities.

While there, he will meet with U.S. legislators, officials and Members of Congress in the U.S. capital for the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) 2025 Capital visit. This will allow him to connect with key U.S. federal and state legislators.

“This mission is about results that strengthen trade and investment ties to keep Alberta’s economy growing. Through PNWER, we’re connecting to partners across the region to build the corridors that drive long-term prosperity,” Getson said.

Getson will participate in targeted meetings with legislative leaders from Montana, Alaska, Idaho and Oregon. He will also present Alberta’s point of view on economic corridor development, trade and investment and opportunities for collaboration across sectors.

According to the Alberta Government, PNWER is a non-partisan, public/private partnership that was established in 1991 to advance the economic well-being, quality of life and common interests of its 10 member jurisdictions, which include the states of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Washington, the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan, and the Yukon and Northwest Territories.
