A pair of charities in Lethbridge is receiving major national recognition.

Charity Intelligence has released its Top 100 Charities list, which celebrates non-profits that strengthen philanthropy by having “world-class” disclosure about their reporting and spending.

The group considers metrics like financial transparency, results reporting, need for funding, cents to the cause, and demonstrated impact.

Interfaith Food Bank

This is the third consecutive year that the Interfaith Food Bank has made the list.

It received a “high” rating for demonstrated impact and a B+ for results reporting.

Approximately 90 per cent of the $1.382 million donated to Interfaith this past year went to the cause.

Their programming includes emergency food assistance, client advocacy, kitchen training & community gardens, and food stock & sharing.

Interfaith’s Executive Director Danielle McIntyre says it is an absolute honour to be recognized this way.

“It speaks to the impact to the families we serve, and the return on investment to donors looking to ensure their donations are truly making a difference. We are particularly proud of this achievement as it was not a contest we applied for or competed in, but an independent assessment of our work as a charitable organization,” says McIntyre.

She adds, “It is also exciting to see several food banks on this list, recognizing that not only is Food Security a huge issue right now, but that food banks are legitimate and reputable organizations deserving of community support.”

Fresh Start Recovery Centre

With locations in Lethbridge and Calgary, the Fresh Start Recovery Centre provides addiction recovery and rehabilitation services.

The centre in Lethbridge has 50 beds for men and women.

It received a “high” rating for demonstrated impact and a B+ for results reporting.

Approximately 86 percent of all funds given to the organization are allocated to providing services for those in need.

The Fresh Start Recovery Centre reports that 98 per cent of their patients said that the staff helped them to believe they could recover, while 89 per cent found a deepened sense of community and belonging.

Among its alumni at the two locations, there has been a collective 1,034 years of sobriety.
