WHL roundup: Schmidt comes up big on power play as Giants beat Blazers 5-3
LANGLEY — Cameron Schmidt’s power-play goal at 13:06 of the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and lifted the Vancouver Giants to a 5-3 win over the visiting Kamloops Blazers in Western Hockey League action on Sunday at Langley Events Centre.
Tyus Sparks scored twice for the Giants (7-7-0-1), who trailed 3-1 late in the second period. Jakob Oreskovic and Blake Chorney netted singles, while Aaron Obobaifo chipped in with two assists.
Josh Evaschesen, Isa Guram and Kayd Ruedig scored for the Blazers (6-6-1-1), who lost 5-4 in overtime to the Giants a night earlier in Kamloops, B.C.
The Blazers led 1-0 after the first period and took a 3-2 lead into the third.
