Oct 27, 2025 | 2:46 PM

A Calgary man has been charged after border officers seized about 77 kilograms of cocaine, valued at roughly $7 million, at the Coutts border crossing south of Lethbridge.

The Canada Border Services Agency says officers found the drugs on Sept. 25, 2025, during a secondary examination of a commercial truck entering Canada from the United States.

Officials say the driver was arrested at the scene, and the Integrated Border Enforcement Team — a joint operation involving the RCMP’s Federal Policing Northwest Region, the CBSA and the Calgary Police Service — launched an investigation.

Surj Singh Salaria, 28, of Calgary, is charged with:

  • Importation of a controlled substance
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Attempting to export goods that are prohibited, controlled or regulated

Salaria is scheduled to appear in Lethbridge provincial court today.
