Family Violence Prevention Month encourages community awareness and action
November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta, and the Lethbridge Police Service, along with other partner agencies, is raising awareness about available supports and encouraging conversations about reaching out for help.
LPS says we all have a role to play to prevent and stop family and intimate partner violence.
LPS says reports of domestic violence increased slightly in 2024, with LPS responding to 2,288 calls compared to 2,225 the year before.
LPS says violence in families or between intimate partners can only be addressed when the community works together to end it. To stop family violence, officials say it must be recognized in the many forms it takes – sexual violence, child abuse, neglect and sexual exploitation, elder abuse and neglect, spousal or partner abuse, sibling abuse, parent or guardian abuse, exposure to another person’s abuse and even pet cruelty.
