Discover Kalispell launches Canadian Welcome Pass

One of Montana’s most popular travel destinations is reaching out to Canadians – offering deals, discounts and specials in an effort to lure them back for a visit.

Discover Kalispell, a tourism marketing and management organization for the city and northwest Montana, has unveiled its Kalispell Canadian Welcome Pass.

Kalispell is near the Canada-U-S border, about five hours south of Calgary.

“We miss our Canadian visitors,” said Diane Medler, Executive Director for Discover Kalispell, in a press release. “For years, Montana and Alberta have enjoyed a close relationship with shared experiences and landscapes, like the world’s first international peace park. Through this pass, we’re inviting Canadians to come back to Montana.”

The Canadian Welcome Pass includes 15 businesses and a mix of lodging, retail, dining and museums. To date, participating businesses include Glacier Art Museum, Norm’s Soda Fountain, Princess & Buck, Waters Edge Winery & Bistro, Western Outdoor, Hampton Inn Kalispell, Switchback Suites, SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Red Lion Hotel, My Place Hotel, Best Western Plus Flathead Lake Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn Express & Suites, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn Kalispell and Kalispell Grand Hotel.

“In Kalispell, we’re putting our money where our mouths are and making it more affordable for Canadian visitors to vacation here,” added Medler.

Canadian tourism to the United States has plummeted largely due to the low Canadian dollar and the arrival of U-S President Donald Trump, his comments about making Canada the 51st state and the ongoing trade war.

“The message is simple – we see you and we miss you,” said Medler.

For Canadian visitors, they can sign up for the Canadian Welcome Pass at https://discoverkalispell.com/welcome-back-canada/. Once they sign up, they will be sent pass information – with specific discounts, sales and more – to utilize in planning their trip.

McKenzie McMillan — a travel consultant with the Vancouver-based Travel Group — says the Kalispell campaign is one of another similar efforts from northern U-S cities and doesn’t address the anger that many Canadians are still feeling.
