Christmas Hope campaign launches in Lethbridge

Several non-profit organizations in Lethbridge are once again teaming up to ensure everyone can have a Merry Christmas.

The Christmas Hope campaign makes its return.

Seven charities are partnering for the initiative, including Lethbridge Food Bank, Interfaith Food Bank, The Salvation Army, Lethbridge Family Services Angel Tree, MyCityCare Shop of Wonders, and Volunteer Lethbridge. A new addition this year is the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization’s Golden Giving Tree.

Together, they hope to serve 6,000 children, 3,000 adults, and 250 seniors.

Lieutenant Zach Marshall, Community Ministries Officer with the Salvation Army in Lethbridge, says he has served in communities across the country, but he has never seen a multi-agency collaboration that works as well to give back as Christmas Hope.

“It’s certainly a model that I think we should see adopted across the country, and seeing community organizations coming together and support one another, to support our community at Christmas time – it’s just really good to see that,” says Marshall.

He adds that the Salvation Army has been seeing growing demand for help around the holidays, and that all of their partnering groups have experienced the same.

“It’s just the reality of the world in which we live today, with rising costs and inflation and all those kinds of things. Families are hurting, and they need more and more help at Christmas time,” Marshall explains.

Residents are asked to make donations of money, food, or toys.

Donors can choose which organization their contribution will go towards.

Regardless of what you give and where it goes, Marshall tells LNN that it makes a big difference for local families in need.

“It really has the chance to make or break Christmas,” says Marshall. “If you have a Christmas meal on the table, you have toys under the tree, that goes such a long way to ensure families are having a fun Christmas, but also just a hopeful Christmas.”

Donations can be dropped off at each of the participating organizations’ offices.
