If you have any old batteries that need to be disposed of properly, now is your chance.

The City of Lethbridge is launching a Curbside Battery Collection Program, running from Nov. 18-28, 2025.

In partnership with Call2Recycle Canada, the City says the pilot program provides a clean, safe, simple and convenient option for household battery disposal.

Batteries will be picked up on the same day as your scheduled curbside organics cart.

To participate, residents are asked to use the provided battery collection bag or a resealable plastic bag, then:

  • Stick tape over the positive (+) terminals of your batteries.
  • Place batteries inside bag, seal it securely and store it away from children and pets.
  • Roll out your green cart and place the bag on top of your cart so it’s visible to collection crews. Please do not place the bag inside your cart.

Most household and single-use batteries are accepted, including: AA, AAA, C, D, 9V, coin/button cells and batteries under five kilograms. Rechargeables, NiCad, NiMH, Lithium-Ion, car batteries, battery packs and industrial batteries are not accepted.

Once collected, the batteries will be taken to approved recycling facilities for sorting and facilities.

As this is a pilot program, City crews will not return for late or missed collections. Batteries can be dropped off at the Waste and Recycling Centre or other drop-off locations.

Residents who use the free Lethbridge Loop app will see a reminder on their collection day.
