Officers are continuing to look into what they say was a “serious” collision in southern Alberta.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highways 1 and 36 west of Brooks at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20.

The investigation by the RCMP reveals that a semi-truck pulling an enclosed trailer was heading south on Highway 36 when it failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 1.

The semi collided with an eastbound semi-truck that was also pulling an enclosed trailer.

Both commercial vehicles came to rest on the roadway.

The driver of the eastbound semi was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other truck was not hurt.

Traffic was diverted for a little more than four hours before the area was fully cleared.

A 26-year-old man from Newell County has been charged with Careless Driving under the Traffic Safety Act.
