Coaldale launches Snow Angels, volunteers needed

Nov 21, 2025 | 1:23 PM

Residents of Coaldale can volunteer to clear snow for those who would otherwise be unable to this winter.

The Town of Coaldale and Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) have launched their annual Snow Angels program.

A Snow Angel is a volunteer who helps to clear sidewalks and/or driveways of snow and ice for people who need extra support.

Zakk Morrison, Executive Director of Barons-Eureka-Warner FCSS, says, “This small act of kindness can make an enormous difference for someone who may otherwise struggle to safely enter or exit their home during the winter season.”

Residents who need help clearing snow at their property, due to age, disability or temporary physical limitations, can apply to FCSS for assistance.

Once registration is completed, a Snow Angel sign is placed outside their home from November until mid-April. When it snows, community members are encouraged to grab a shovel and help to clear the walkways or driveway.

Volunteers may include individuals, families, youth groups, seniors, community organizations, or local businesses. Snow Angels recipients are encouraged to leave a shovel accessible to ensure volunteers can assist quickly and safely.

To recognize the efforts of local Snow Angels, volunteers are invited to submit their volunteer hours online each month for a chance to win a small appreciation prize. Residents who receive assistance may also nominate a volunteer for a gift of thanks.

Volunteers and those needing assistance are asked to send an email to volunteerservices@fcss.ca or call 403-915-7063.
