Milk River emergency department temporarily closed

Nov 21, 2025 | 9:35 AM

Alberta Health Services is advising residents of Milk River that, if they have a medical emergency, they will temporarily need to go elsewhere.

The emergency department at the Milk River Health Centre closed at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, November 21, and it is set to reopen at 2:00 p.m. the same day.

The closure is reportedly due to an unexpected shortage of clinical personnel and an inability to secure coverage.

Anybody having a medical emergency during this time is asked to call 911. EMS services are prepared to respond to emergency events and support inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites.

Patients can also access emergency healthcare at the Raymond Health Centre (60 km away) and Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge (87 km).

Those with non-urgent health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.

Nurses will remain on-site during the closure to look after long-term care residents.
