Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer has given the green light for a petition to recall a third UCP politician.

Gordon McClure has determined that the petition, filed by Casey Klein, meets the requirements to recall Grande Prairie UCP MLA Nolan Dyck.

Dyck, Premier Danielle Smith, and Legislative Speaker Ric McIver were issued the approval on November 14, 2025, and were given the right to submit a statement in response to the applicant’s statement. At the time of writing, Dyck has not responded to the petition.

Applicant Casey Klein will need to collect at least 9,427 signatures in the Grande Prairie riding from November 22, 2025, to February 19, 2026.

Klein will be able to register canvassers to collect signatures over the 90-day period, but will need to meet a list of requirements, including:

  • Must be an eligible elector who has lived in Grande Prairie for 3 months prior to canvassing
  • Must comply with the Canvasser Code of Conduct and any guidelines issued by the Chief Electoral Officer

Signatures must be collected using the proper forms provided by Elections Alberta. Any other signatures collected on other forms will not be accepted.

Elections Alberta will verify the petition if it meets the requirements within 21 days of being submitted (by March 13, 2026, if the petition is received on February 19).

Within seven days after completing verification (by March 20, 2026), Elections Alberta will report the results to Klein, Dyck, Danielle Smith, and Ric McIver. Results will be published on the Elections Alberta website.

Recall petitions have also been approved for Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides and Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt.
