Lethbridge MLA among the latest to face recall petition

Nov 25, 2025 | 3:52 PM

Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf is among five more Alberta MLAs identified as the subject of a recall petition announced by Elections Alberta on Tuesday.

The petition application was put forward by Ryan Tanner who needs to collect 13,207 signatures between Nov. 26, 2025-Feb. 23, 2026. That is the total number of signatures required for the petition to be successful, with 22,011 votes cast in the riding in the most recent provincial election in 2023.

According to Tanner’s petition application, Neudorf, Minister of Affordability and Utilities, should act as the voice and representative of the Lethbridge-East constituents.

His statement reads, “Recent voting activity from him demonstrates a disconnect and his inability to meet the needs, desires, and expectations of those he represents. We need a leader who meets these responsibilities.”

Neudorf’s statement in response reads:

“I respect the democratic process and the right of constituents to hold elected officials accountable. However, recall legislation was designed for cases of serious misconduct, not policy disagreements. I have consistently worked to represent Lethbridge-East with integrity, listening to diverse perspectives and making decisions in the best interest of our community and province. Weaponizing recall for ideological purposes undermines stability and constructive governance. Recent progress includes three new schools in Lethbridge, ongoing school modernizations, and initiatives to recruit family doctors and expand rural medical training. I remain focused on delivering results for Lethbridge-East and ensuring our region’s voice is heard.”

Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, Gordon McClure, received petition applications to recall the following five Members of the Legislative Assembly and determined all applications meet the requirements of section 3(1) of the Recall Act.

  • Electoral Division 49 – Athabasca-Barrhead-Westlock, Glenn Van Dijken,
  • Electoral Division 53 – Camrose, Jackie Lovely,
  • Electoral Division 71 – Lethbridge-East, Nathan Neudorf,
  • Electoral Division 79 – Red Deer-South, Jason Stephan, and
  • Electoral Division 82 – Spruce Grove-Stony Plain, Searle Turton.

As required by the Act, officials say written notice of the approval was issued on Nov. 14, 2025.

This brings the total number of United Conservative Party (UCP) members facing a recall petition to 14, almost a third of the 47 elected UCP members.
