Investigation into use of force against southern Alberta RCMP officer

Nov 26, 2025 | 1:23 PM

An independent agency will look into the actions undertaken by an RCMP officer to determine whether their use of force was justified.

Officers with the Gleichen RCMP arrested a woman for alleged mischief at 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 30, 2025.

The woman had visible blood on her face at the time of her arrest, and she said that she had been beaten up. She was told that EMS would be called.

RCMP took her back to the detachment at 10:04 p.m., at which time, the woman asked for an ambulance. She was informed that one had been called.

The woman was brought into cells with her hands cuffed behind her back.

According to the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), the officer had repeatedly asked the woman to remove her shoes. She reportedly responded by swearing and again asking for an ambulance, turning away from the officer.

“The officer grabbed her arm and kicked her legs out from under her. The female hit the ground with her face,” reads the initial report from ASIRT.

The woman suffered a cut on her upper lip and a lost tooth.

EMS arrived a short time later.

ASIRT says it will examine the use of force by the officer. No additional information is being released by the agency at this time.
