The next generation of nurses will gain some real-world experience, while seniors will have the opportunity to get high-quality care.

Nursing students at the University of Lethbridge are organizing a health fair at the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre.

Students begin by conducting an overall assessment of older adults and their health-related wants and needs, determining services that are relevant to them. They will then reach out to agencies and businesses in the community and invite them to be vendors at the fair.

Penni Wilson, U of L nursing instructor, says students seek support from the community for door prizes and food.

“We have amazing partners that generously support this event, who the students ensure are recognized for that support,” says Wilson.

Ashley Kern, program coordinator at Nord-Bridge, adds that the event has grown in popularity in recent years.

“Our members always look forward to this event every year,” says Kern.

The seniors’ health fair takes place on Thursday, Nov. 27, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre.
