New fundraising record for U of L’s Buy a Student a Breakfast Campaign

The University of Lethbridge (U of L) says its latest fundraising campaign was a massive success.

The donation period for the Buy a Student a Breakfast campaign has closed, and a total of $20,418 was raised.

This means that 3,403 breakfast coupons have been purchased for students as they head into their final exams.

That is more than double last year’s total of nearly $10,000 and 1,560 coupons. At the time, this was the record.

Cyndi Crane, president of the U of L Alumni Association, says the community’s generosity amazes her.

“I’m not sure people understand how impactful this is for students,” says Crane. “The breakfast coupon gets them off on the right foot for the day, and even more than that, it sends a message that they have an entire community of people in their corner, looking out for them. That means more than anything.”

Christa Merrell, U of L philanthropy advisor, says that from the first day of the campaign, she could see that people understood the challenges students are facing and were eager to help.

She adds that food insecurity is a major issue facing today’s post-secondary students.

Each breakfast coupon is valued at $10. U of L food provider Chartwells donates four dollars while supporters cover the remaining six dollars.
