Two emergency exercises set for Wednesday in Lethbridge

Residents of Lethbridge should not be alarmed if they see an influx of emergency personnel in two locations today.

The first will be conducted by the Lethbridge County Regional Emergency Management Partnership at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3.

It will take place at the Lethbridge County Administration Office on 905 4 Avenue South.

This exercise will include staff from Lethbridge County, the Village of Barons, and the Towns of Coalhurst, Nobleford, and Picture Butte.

They will simulate their coordinated response to a large-scale disaster. Called “Southern Skyfall,” the scenario will involve a damaging summer storm and tornado, posing significant impacts on life, safety, property, and the environment.

Then, between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m., the Lethbridge Police Service and Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services will conduct their own training scenario. LPS did not elaborate on the nature of the exercise.

It is scheduled for an area near Gilbert Paterson Middle School on the 2100 block of 12 Avenue South.

LPS did not elaborate on the nature of the exercise, but residents may see and hear emergency vehicles and activity in the area during this time.

In both cases, officials say there will be no risk to the public.
