A local youth has earned a significant piece of recognition.

Ronin Theron of the 11 Lethbridge, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron, has received the King Charles III Coronation Medal.

She received the honour from Major Krissy Donor, Officer Commanding, Southern Alberta Area, during a special ceremony at the Vimy Ridge Armoury on Nov. 15, 2025.

The medal is given to those who have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region, or community.

Doner says that Theron was nominated “for her commitment to the Cadet Program and the local community. Her volunteerism in various local activities, as well as her mentorship of fellow youth leaders, embodies the aims of the Cadet Program.”

Theron shared, “When I found out I had been awarded the medal, I honestly didn’t believe it at first. I was in shock. I knew I had dedicated a lot to the Cadet Program, but receiving an honour like this felt completely out of reach.”

Theron says that the Cadet Program has been instrumental in her personal development, offering opportunities to travel across Western Canada and providing numerous leadership and training experiences.

She first joined the Cadets as a shy 12-year-old and admits that she never thought she would feel confident leading a team and meeting new people.

Theron has spent several weeks away from home at a time, and countless weekends and Tuesday nights dedicated to training and service.

One of the goals of the program is to provide challenging and unique experiences that focus on leadership, citizenship, healthy living, and stimulating interest in the activities of the Canadian Armed Forces.

“I am forever grateful for the opportunities the Cadet Program has given and continues to give me,” says Theron. “Through problem-solving, being pushed beyond my comfort zone, and sharing laughs that turned into lifelong friendships, the program has shaped who I am today. I hope to continue learning from, inspiring, and mentoring those around me.”

The Cadet Program is open to youths aged 12-18, and is designed to develop confident, self-sufficient leaders who are active in their communities.

11 Lethbridge, Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron conducts training weekly at the Vimy Ridge Armoury on Tuesdays between 6:45 and 9:15 p.m. September through June. For more information, visit: www.canada.ca/joincadets or email 11air@cadets.gc.ca.
