Members of the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) will be collecting donations for families in need this holiday season.

The service will take part in the 6th Annual Charity Checkstop on Saturday, Dec. 6, from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the west parking lot of Park Place Mall (near the former Sears).

Officers will accept donations of new, unwrapped gifts, non-perishable food items, and cash in support of the Christmas Hope campaign.

Cst. Dana Holland, who works with the LPS Community Engagement Unit, says supporting the community is at the heart of what they do.

She believes that the Charity Checkstop is one of the most meaningful ways they can give back.

“Our members are proud to stand behind this initiative and help ensure families and individuals who are struggling have the support they need. Christmas is a time for generosity and care, and we’re committed to doing our part to make the season brighter for everyone,” says Holland.

Christmas Hope is a collaboration between seven non-profit organizations in the city: Lethbridge Food Bank, Interfaith Food Bank, The Salvation Army, Lethbridge Family Services Angel Tree, MyCityCare Shop of Wonders, Volunteer Lethbridge, and the Lethbridge Senior Citizens Organization’s Golden Giving Tree.

The groups hope to provide Christmas gifts and support to 6,000 children, 3,000 adults, and 250 seniors this year.
