Milk River emergency department temporarily closed

Dec 5, 2025 | 10:29 AM

Residents of Milk River will temporarily need to go elsewhere if they are having a medical emergency.

Alberta Health Services says the emergency department at the Milk River Health Centre closed at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5. It is set to reopen at 7:00 p.m. on the same day.

The closure is due to an unexpected shortage of clinical staff and an inability to secure coverage.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they need emergency care.

“EMS services are prepared to respond to emergency events and support inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites,” reads an advisory from AHS.

People can also seek emergency healthcare at the Raymond Health Centre (60 km) or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge (87 km).

Those with non-urgent, health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.

During the closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to look after long-term care residents.
