Environment Canada has issued a pair of weather alerts for southern Alberta.

The southwestern region is under a wind warning.

They say strong west winds with gusts up to 100 km/hr are expected Monday night, Dec. 8. This will likely weaken by Tuesday morning.

Some of the communities covered under the wind warning include Fort Macleod, Magrath, Cardston, Waterton Lakes National Park, Pincher Creek, and Crowsnest Pass.

Areas to the north of this, such as Claresholm, Nanton, and Kananaskis Village, also have a wind warning, but gusts could reach a maximum of 90 km/hr.

The weather forecaster has also issued a winter storm watch for the southeastern and central regions.

This includes places like Medicine Hat, Brooks, Drumheller, Red Deer, and Ponoka.

Environment Canada says hazardous conditions are expected Monday night and Tuesday morning.

“A cold front will bring heavy rain showers or flurries late tonight, as well as strong northwest winds gusting to 90 km/h. This will be followed by temperatures quickly dropping below zero in some areas, likely causing any wet surfaces to freeze,” reads the advisory from Environment Canada.
