Police say A-I-generated pornography involving children growing rapidly

Dec 9, 2025 | 10:55 AM

Police in Alberta say illegal and explicit A-I-generated pornography involving children is growing rapidly.

But Staff Sergeant Mark Auger (OH’-zhay)says as disturbing as that is, there are things parents can do to try and keep kids safe.

Auger says the first thing parents could do is make sure kids’ social media accounts are locked down, allowing access only to invited people.

Youth should also avoid changing chat platforms in mid-discussion as that could also compromise security.

Auger’s unit investigates child sexual abuse material on the internet.

Last week, his unit arrested and charged a 17-year-old who allegedly used online pictures of various local girls and used A-I technology to turn them into sexualized images.

The issue has surfaced in other Canadian high schools as well, including in Winnipeg and Guelph, Ontario.
