FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION

Vauxhall resident dies in motor vehicle collision near Scandia

Dec 12, 2025 | 7:40 AM

A 66-year-old Vauxhall resident has died after a motor vehicle collision on Thursday afternoon near Scandia.

Brooks RCMP received a call about a collision between a semi-truck and an SUV on Highway 36 near Township Road 154 at about 1:14 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2025.

Mounties said the highway in the area was covered in black ice, with blowing snow causing poor visibility.

Firefighters and EMS arrived on scene and declared the driver of the SUV deceased.

Though investigation is ongoing, preliminary information suggests that, due to inclement weather, the SUV collided with a trailer from the semi-truck that had drifted over the median.

Highway 36 at the scene had been shut down to traffic for a period of time on Thursday before reopening for travel.

Alberta RCMP send condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
