Environment Canada has issued an “orange” wind warning for a portion of southern Alberta.

Orange weather alerts mean that:

  • Severe weather is likely to cause significant damage, disruption, or health impacts
  • Impacts are major, widespread and/or may last a few days

They are calling for westerly wind gusts of up to 130 km/hr on Wednesday afternoon. These will continue into the evening before weakening.

“Utility outages are likely. Driving conditions will likely be very difficult,” reads the weather alert from Environment Canada. “High-sided vehicles could be overturned by the wind. Secure loose objects.”

Some of the communities included in the orange wind warning include Lethbridge, Taber, Milk River, Cardston, Waterton Lakes National Park, Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, and Claresholm.

Areas to the north and to the east of this have a “yellow” wind warning, with gusts up to 100 km/hr.
