Save on your property taxes by prepaying

Dec 17, 2025 | 10:12 AM

The City of Lethbridge is reminding property owners about how they can save some money on their taxes.

Those who make prepayments towards their 2026 property taxes in January or February will see a discount when their 2026 tax bills are issued in May.

The discount is the equivalent of earning interest at one per cent per year from the date of payment, starting in 2026, to June 30, 2026.

The earlier the prepayments are received, the greater the credit will be.

Prepayment amounts cannot exceed the total property tax bill for the preceding year, as per Bylaw 6510.

Property owners on the Tax Installment Pre-payment Plan (TIPP) program already receive a monthly discount on their credit balance.

Residents can make payments online, at their financial institution, in person at City Hall, by mail or using the secured drop box at City Hall.

Please note that City Hall will be closed from December 25 to January 1, then re-open on January 2. Payments made online, at your bank, or sent in the mail will be honoured as of the online payment date and the stamp date.
