Town of Coaldale and Lethbridge County extend fire and emergency services agreement

The Town of Coaldale and Lethbridge County have entered into a three-year extension of their existing emergency services agreement.

Under the renewed agreement, officials say the Town of Coaldale Fire Department will continue to deliver a full range of emergency services within Lethbridge County, including fire suppression and rescue, response to motor vehicle collisions, and medical first response.

The municipalities say these services ensure residents continue to receive timely, professional emergency response from trained personnel.

In addition to emergency response services, the agreement also provides for the Town of Coaldale to deliver fire inspections and fire investigations within Lethbridge County on a fee-for-service basis, supporting safety, prevention, and regulatory compliance across both municipalities.

“This agreement reflects the strong and collaborative relationship between the Town of Coaldale and Lethbridge County,” said Mayor Jack Van Rijn, in a press release Monday. “By extending this partnership, we are ensuring residents continue to receive reliable, high-quality emergency services while making effective and efficient use of regional resources.”

Mayor Van Rijn added, “Regional cooperation like this allows municipalities to plan responsibly, maintain service continuity, and strengthen public safety across our communities.”

Officials say the three-year extension provides stability and continuity of service for residents, while allowing both municipalities to plan effectively and collaboratively for future emergency service needs – including the opportunity to discuss how they can further enhance their regional relationship.

“Lethbridge County is pleased to extend this service agreement with the Town of Coaldale,” said Reeve Tory Campbell. “This partnership ensures our residents continue to receive reliable, professional fire and emergency response services, while supporting responsible service delivery and long-term planning. We look forward to working with Coaldale on how we can continue working together in the future.”

Officials say the town and county remain committed to delivering high-quality emergency response services and working with regional partners to enhance public safety throughout the region.
