Alberta RCMP will respect decision on potential change to provincial police
The Deputy Commissioner of the Alberta RCMP is responding to the possibility that it may or may not be Alberta’s largest policing agency in the years to come.
Trevor Daroux is reacting to the recommendations that came from the Alberta Next panel earlier this month, as one of them states the following:
“Continue with the ongoing work of establishing an Alberta Police Service (APS) to provide policing services in Alberta’s rural and small city communities, and transition community policing services from the RCMP to the APS and municipal policing services.”
Daroux says decisions about who provides policing services in Alberta ultimately rest with the Government of Alberta, and that he fully respects that responsibility.
