Although many in the region still struggle to find a primary care physician, the situation appears to be getting a bit better – at least in terms of raw numbers.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta has released its report on quarterly physician resource statistics for the third quarter, covering the period of July 1 to September 30, 2025.

As of the end of September, 317 fully-registered physicians were practicing in Lethbridge, an increase of six compared to the previous quarter and four from the same time last year.

The city has seen a net growth of 43 doctors over the last three years, as there were just 274 physicians in the third quarter of 2022.

Medicine Hat has added another six doctors in the last three months, while Brooks has lost one.

For the South Health Zone, the number of working doctors has increased by 18 over the last year, comprising both specialists and non-specialists.

As of this publication, AlbertaFindADoctor.ca shows that family physicians are accepting new patients at The Wild Rose Clinic in Lethbridge, Coulee Medical Clinic in Taber, Picture Butte Medical Clinic, and Cardston Medical Clinic.

Across Alberta, another 442 physicians became registered to practice in the province in Q3 this year, about 77.6 per cent of whom were in either Calgary or Edmonton.
