The Alberta RCMP are calling on motorists to drive with caution following a significant increase in fatal collision in December and early January.

Police say that preliminary data unveiled that there were 20 fatal collisions in December which is above the 10-year average of 16.7.

“Police are reminding motorists to slow down, allow extra time for travel, and adjust driving habits to winter conditions. Waiting for better road conditions is always an option as well,” as stated in a media release.

Mounties explained that winter weather and recent snowfalls have been a significant factor in the collisions. Injury collisions also appear to be up.
