The RCMP is continuing to investigate a man’s death in southern Alberta.

At approximately 8:48 p.m. on Christmas Day 2025, the Gleichen RCMP responded to a report of an assault on the Siksika First Nation.

Officers attended the victim’s home and determined that he required medical attention. He was taken to a hospital in Calgary.

The man died the following day, and an autopsy was performed in Calgary on Dec. 29.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined the manner of death to be a homicide.

The investigation has since been taken over by the RCMP Major Crimes Unit.

Paul Glen McMaster, 40, of the Siksika Nation and Calgary, was arrested on Jan. 6, 2026, and has been charged with manslaughter.

After a bail hearing, he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on the Siksika Nation on Jan. 8.
